Behaviour

Our highly skilled paediaricians have worked for many years with children of all ages experiencing a huge range of behavioural issues. They recognise the signs of developmental milestones that provide no cause for concern; where physical problems underpin unexpected behaviour; and where emotions may drive difficult behavioural patterns.

Your doctor and the wider team at Viveka is here to help you understand what's happening for your child. We know that every child has a unique style of expressing their feelings and we offer sensitive and gentle advice and support.

Our specialist consultant paediatricians are experienced in working with children from birth to age 16. They treat children with behaviour difficulties ranging from tantrums, screaming, hitting and biting to night terrors, kicking, head banging, being distanced, difficulty communicating, and social problems with peer groups throughout the school years.

Your consultant will assess your child and talk to you about your experience and the range of behaviour that is common for your child's stage of development. He may suggest observation and some useful diagnostic tests.

Diagnosis begins with the meeting between doctor and child, when the doctor will do an examination and build a picture of your child's life. Your paediatrician may suggest further consultation with Ann, our psychologist, or Kitty, our psychotherapist. If a physical condition is suspected or diagnosed, your child may benefit from seeing a specialist consultant, e.g. an allergist or a doctor experienced in working with children and families affected by autism, ADD or ADHD.

Tests will be individually recommended for your child under guidance of your paediatrician.

Medical treatment often encompasses lifestyle advice, and occasionally medication may be useful. We recommend specialist help if it is appropriate.

Emotional support may be one of the keys. Our 'Emo team' has years of experience helping children and families. We span child psychology, family therapy, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. Sometimes your baby reflects your feelings, and behaviour may be a responce to family issues. We often meet parents and children together to consider a child's behaviour in the context of the family. Support will be uniquely tailored to you child and your family. Viveka also hosts support groups for toddlers and a sleep clinic

Complementary therapy may be very helpful. For instance, many babies and children respond to cranial osteopathy or homeopathy. Looking at your child's eating pattern and using practical nutritional advice may be very effective. Our nutritionists are expert in helping babies and children.
