Ageing positively

From paediatricians to gynaecologists, counsellors and complementary therapists, our team loves to help people enjoy the advantages of moving from one lifestage to the next. 'Coming of age' holds many opportunites and we encourage you to celebrate these. We'll look after your physical health and your emotional wellbeing, and support you in your changing relationships.

Your doctor will monitor changes in your body and offer specialised screening and preventative advice appropriate for your age. For instance, breast screening for older women, HPV vaccination for young teenage girls, vaccination for babies.

Medical or surgical treatment may be appropriate, e.g. HRT for the menopause or laparoscopic removal of endometriosis.

Nutrition is one of the cornerstones of health. Our internationally renowned nutritionists, led by Marilyn Glenville, are here to give you personal practical easy-to-follow advice about food and eating patterns. They may suggest vitamin, mineral, omega fatty acid and antioxidant supplements to suit you.

Complementary therapists offer a variety of approaches to enhance physical and emotional wellbeing in times of transition. Choices at Viveka include homeopathy, acupuncture and osteopathy - the choice of therapists in each discipline helps us match you with the treatment and the person who'll suit you. You may see a therapist to reduce symptoms or as a maintenance program for your wellbeing. Some people visit more than one therapist to nourish their mind, body and spirit.

Emotional support may be useful for you individually or as a family. Some transitions may be more challenging than others, for instance when you change jobs or retire, cope with illness, become a parent or grandparent, or your children or partner need support. Viveka's 'Emo' (emotional support) team includes Ann, our personal and family therapist. Other team members include Carole Murray , whose hypnotherapy and NLP skills help people make massive transformations in mood and outlook, and we have life and fitness coaches and a psychotherapist who works with children and families. We are here to understand and encourage you.

Lifestyle measures may include altering your ‘work-life’ balance, introducing relaxation and exercise, and learning new ways to be positive. Your doctor, therapist or life coach may give you useful tips.

Did you know?

'Good nutrition reduces the incidence of heart attacks, strokes and cancer. Recent research has shown that if you eat well and your diet combines omega 3 essential fatty acids (from oily fish, flaxseeds etc), antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, your health risk is reduced; even if you have a family history of the illnesses. Scientifically validated tests can determine your nutritional balance and simple practical advice, often with supplements, can make a big difference to your long term health.'
