Assessing fertilty

Viveka is well known for being gentle and giving rapid results and for its high success rates in fertility care. Your fertility assessment will be complete in a single menstrual cycle, using an outpatient approach. Over 40% of couples who visit us conceive without further medical support.

Your personal assessment will give a picture of the reserves of eggs in your ovaries and the timing of ovulation. It will reveal how your uterus responds after ovulation, in preparation to receive a fertilised embryo. And we can assess sperm quality and function. The best time to conceive is during the two days before, the day of, and the day after ovulation.

Your consultant gynaecologist fertility specialist begins by talking to you about your experiences with fertility issues, and your wishes. Then the doctor will arrange a series of blood tests and ultrasound scans for you and a sperm count for your partner.

A blood test asseses

  • the reserves of eggs in your ovaries
  • your hormone levels
  • progesterone levels following ovulation, to confirm your ovary is functioning well

Ultrasound scans carried out by CDS are a cornerstone of diagnosis.

  • scans allow us to observe the egg follicles and confirm when you ovulate
  • scans recheck the reserves of eggs in your ovaries
  • a scan checks your womb lining and ovary function after ovulation, this shows how they prepare for an embryo to implant in your womb 5 days after ovulation
  • we can also check your fallopian tubes using a procedure called HSS, where scanning tracks the passage of liquid inserted into the uterus. This is done in the scan room on an outpatient basis.

A sperm count can be carried out during the same monitored cycle.

You may feel an emotional boost knowing that your body is working well and knowing exactly when you are ovulating. You may also elect to meet our fertility counsellor if you would like to talk individually or as a couple.

Your fertility specialist will meet you after your assessment cycle to discuss the results and make further plans. This will also be an opportunity to discuss a lifestyle and nutritional programme, and consider one or more complementary therapies to support you.

If the ultrasound scans show a need for closer visualisation of your uterus, ovaries and tubes we will offer you either hysteroscopy or laparoscopy. These are minimally invasive surgical techniques that utilise a tiny fibre optic camera to obtain detailed images. Corrective surgery can sometimes be carried out during the diagnostic procedure. Our specialists are skilled surgeons and have a high reputation for gentle and effective treatment.
