Prostate & testicular health
Screening for prostate and testicular cancer is an important part of healthcare for men. This may be part of your wellman check, or you can visit specifically for screening.
Symptoms & Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer
Prostate Cancer rates increase in men over the age of 50. Cancerous cells can exist without causing symptoms. Where there are symptoms, these may include:
- Pain
- Difficulty urinating
- Erectile dysfunction
On their own, these symptoms may have other causes. For a diagnosis, GP Dr Laila Kaikavoosi will begin with a blood test for PSA (prostate specific antigen). Further diagnosis may be carried out using a biopsy to analyse the cells of the prostate gland.
Symptoms & Diagnosis of Testicular Cancer
The most usual symptom of testicular cancer is a lump in the scrotum or groin; there may also be pain in the groin or lower back or abdomen. The presence of antigens that indicate cancer can be checked using a blood test for testicular cancer. Dr Kaikavoosi will offer you a thorough check and diagnosis.
Treatment
If you receive a diagnosis of prostate or testicular cancer, GP Dr Kaikavoosi will refer you to a specialist. Not all men choose medical treatment; your choice will be determined by the extent of the cancer and the speed of its growth, as well as your preferences. At Viveka your GP and any other professionals, including counsellors, are here to support you as you make your choices and undergo treatment.
