Weight
Unhappy with your weight? Want to lose a few pounds – or more? Concerns about weight are a common reason for men to visit their GP. Starting with a GP consultation is a good way to assess your weight, your BMI and your general health, and begin to plan a weight management programme.
In your initial consultation, GP Dr Kaikavoosi will consider your personal history, your weight and BMI (body mass index), and any physical or emotional issues that may affect your eating habits and digestion.
Your GP may also recommend:
- a cholesterol check
- blood pressure check
- cardiovascular assemssment
- thyroid function check
- diabetes risk assessment
These tests are advisable if your weight is higher than average. You may also choose to visit a nutritionist, or follow a referral. Viveka’s team of nutritionists is led by Dr Marilyn Glenville (PHD). Our nutritionists are highly practical and have many years experience supporting men, women and families to eat well, maintain a healthy weight and resolve digestive problems.
Action plan
With a full picture of your personal health and nutritional needs, the next stage is to review your diet and your lifestyle. Our aim will be to help you achieve a healthy weight and to keep on track, while enjoying delicious food.
The philosophy of healthcare at Viveka is to offer a range of resources to give you the option of combining medical expertise and care with personal support and lifestyle advice. We have an extensive team under one roof, giving you the opportunity to try different things, and to choose the people whose profession and personality best suit your needs.
We can help you change your diet and lifestyle to detoxify your system, support your kidneys, liver and immune system, and avoid the emotional rollercoaster that comes from irregular eating, nutrient deficiencies or sugar highs and lows; these are simple ways to reduce stress and anxiety, and support your general health.
We also recommend exercise. You could try Kettlebell classes to get you started with an exercise regime you can continue at home; or visit a life coach to help you make (and stick to!) fitness plans.
If your eating habits are linked with emotional difficulties, which may range from anxiety to depression, you are very welcome to visit one of our psychotherapists or another member of the emotional support team at Viveka.
