He has published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals; presented at over 50 national and international meetings; and is actively involved in ongoing research.
Role
Paediatric and Young Adult Orthopaedic Consultant (specialising in bones and joints).
Qualifications
Consultant Paediatric and Young Adult Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon: BSc (Hons); MBBS (Hons); MRCS (Eng); FRCS (Tr&Orth).
Core Belief
Most parents, children and adults in their 20s to 40s need reassurance that their bone and joint problems are simply a variant of normal – very few need intervention and fewer still need surgery.
I like
Treating a problem I find with non-operative options (although prompt recognition of a condition that can be successfully reversed with surgery can also be satisfying). I also like to discuss books, film, music, poetry and painting and can easily be persuaded to sing and dance …
I don't like
To feel that someone is being excluded
I like Viveka because
I can apply a holistic approach to bone and joint problems in children and young adults in a calm and relaxed environment. I also like the feel of its space.
I also work at
Barts and The London NHS Trust (NHS), the Portland Hospital (paediatric), the London Independent and the Princess Grace Hospitals (adults). I also work very hard at being a best friend and loyal companion.
I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the William Harvey Institute, Charterhouse Square, part of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London.
And I'm involved in education, at all levels from medical students to established Consultants, and run a management and educational medical consultancy; several clinical and basic science courses as part of the orthopaedic educational portfolio at Barts and The London; and courses at several other institutions around the world.
I have published a dozen books on various aspects of medicine and medical-related subjects, some of which have been award-winning, and am working on another three. I am the current Associate Editor of the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine and sit on committees at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Orthopaedic Association. I also act as an expert witness on orthopaedic and trauma medicolegal cases.
